Village houses come with history and dust
Walk a few blocks off Front Street and you'll see why cleaning here is its own thing. A lot of Ballston Spa's homes are well over a century old. They have narrow steep staircases, small rooms with lots of doorways, painted trim everywhere, wood floors that have been refinished more than once, old windows with wide sills, and radiators.
None of that is hard to clean. It just takes longer and more hand work than a newer house. Painted trim and spindles get dusted by hand. Radiators get vacuumed, not just wiped on top. Old floors get a damp mop, not a soaking. Porches get swept as part of the visit if you want.
Plenty of village homes have also been split into two-family houses or apartments, so cleaning here often means single units for tenants and full-house cleans for owners who live in one side and rent the other.
Start with a deep clean
What's the best first cleaning for an older Ballston Spa house? A deep clean. Old houses hide dust in the places a regular visit skims past: tops of door and window casings, baseboards with layers of paint, the backs of radiators, built-in cabinets. A first deep clean gets all of that, and regular visits keep it there.
Our deep cleaning page lists everything that's included. After that, most households move to recurring house cleaning every two weeks, which is enough to keep an old house from sliding back.
Around fair week and the rest of the year
The Saratoga County Fair comes to the fairgrounds in the village every summer, and for that week the streets near the fairgrounds are busy. If you have family coming in for the fair, or you just want the house ready before summer guests, book ahead and we'll fit you in before rather than during.
The rest of the year has its own rhythm. Winter brings salt and sand in from the sidewalks, which shows up first on old wood floors near the door. Spring is pollen on every sill and porch. The county offices and courts in the village keep downtown steady on weekdays, so we'll plan parking and timing for village visits.
Rentals and move-outs
With so many apartments and two-family houses in the village, leases turn over constantly. If you're a tenant moving out, a move-out cleaning covers the oven, fridge, inside cabinets and drawers, bathrooms and floors edge to edge, which is what a landlord looks at. If you're a landlord, we can clean the unit between tenants so it's ready to show.
Past the village line
The village is surrounded by the towns of Ballston and Milton, where the housing gets newer: ranches, colonials and subdivisions off Route 50 and Route 67, plus homes out toward Ballston Lake and Burnt Hills. Those get our standard house cleaning services: kitchens, bathrooms, dusting and floors, on whatever schedule fits.
The households out there look a lot like suburban families anywhere in the county: two working adults, kids in school and activities, a dog, a finished basement. For them the job is less about delicate trim and more about keeping up with a busy kitchen, the kids' bathroom and an entry that sees boots and sports gear all winter. A visit every week or two keeps it manageable.
