Rotterdam is bigger than it looks from Route 7
Most people know Rotterdam by its roads: Route 7, Altamont Avenue, the Curry Road plazas and Rotterdam Square. But the town runs a long way west of all that, out to Rotterdam Junction on the Mohawk, and the houses change along the way.
Close to the Schenectady line, it's mostly postwar capes, ranches and raised ranches on regular-size lots. Farther out, the lots get bigger and the houses newer, with attached garages and finished lower levels. In Rotterdam Junction and the rural roads around it, you'll find older homes and farmhouses where the mudroom does a lot of work.
That spread matters for cleaning. A compact cape near Curry Road and a big raised ranch with a finished basement out toward the river are different jobs, and we quote them that way.
Raised ranches deserve a special mention because Rotterdam has so many of them. The split entry means two short flights of stairs right inside the front door, and that landing collects everything: boots, backpacks, dog hair, salt. Upstairs is usually the kitchen, living room and bedrooms; downstairs is a family room, laundry and often a second bathroom that gets forgotten. We clean both levels with the same care, and the lower-level bathroom gets the same scrub as the main one.
Capes have their own quirk. Bedrooms tucked under the roofline mean sloped ceilings, knee walls and dormer windows, and dust settles on every one of those angles. They take a little longer than the square footage suggests.
Picking a schedule that fits
Every other week is the schedule most Rotterdam households end up on. It keeps the kitchen, bathrooms and floors under control without paying for visits the house doesn't need yet. Choose weekly with kids and pets in the house, and monthly if you live alone or as a couple and keep things fairly neat.
Whatever the schedule, recurring house cleaning covers the same core every time: kitchen, bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming and mopping. If you only need help occasionally, our standard house cleaning services can be booked as a single visit whenever you want one.
The stuff winter leaves behind
Rotterdam sees real winters, and a lot of people here commute on the Thruway, I-890 or Route 7 every day. By March, that means road salt ground into entry rugs, a white film on the kitchen floor, and a garage entry nobody wants to look at. Raised ranches have it worst, since everyone walks in through the lower-level door and tracks it straight up the stairs.
A spring reset takes care of it. A deep clean goes past the weekly routine to baseboards, door frames, light fixtures, window sills, inside the oven and behind the appliances you can move. It's also the clean to book before you list the house or after the last of the holiday guests leave.
Booking a clean in Rotterdam
Tell us roughly where in town you are, how many bedrooms and baths, whether there's a finished basement, and if you have pets. If the lower level is a playroom or a home gym that only needs attention once a month, say so; rotating rooms like that through the schedule keeps each visit focused on the kitchen, bathrooms and the floors that see daily traffic.
First visits run longer than the ones after, especially in a house that hasn't had outside help before. That's normal. The second and third visits are where you see what a steady schedule actually feels like. Then use the free house cleaning quote form or call (518) 464-8817.
We also clean next door in Schenectady and over the town line in Guilderland.
